Wine | G.D. Vajra
Aldo Vaira is a quiet man of few words but he, his wife Milena and their sons Giuseppe & Isidoro share an outsize enthusiasm for everything they do. Speaking of his philosophy Aldo says,
"I try to make wines that give people joy. In the past wine was a food, it was necessary for sustenance. Today that is not the case, we choose to drink for pleasure. I want to make wines that bring people happiness."
Vajra aims to make wines that express the terroirs of his vineyards, which are located in the Vergne zone of Barolo. The wines reflect their maker’s highly individual and personal style, they exhibit great nuance, elegance, and understatement, like the man himself.
96+ POINTS
The 2010 Barolo Bricco delle Viole is going to need quite a bit of time to fully come together. Dark cherries, plums, tobacco and spices burst from the glass in an intense, structured Barolo that hits all the high notes. Next to the Ravera, the Bricco delle Viole is more floral, lifted and finessed, especially with time in the glass. Rose petals, savory herbs and sweet spices add the last nuance of complexity. The 2010 is fabulous; it's as simple as that. -- AG

The 2010 Barolo Albe is a real stunner. Brilliant and finely sculpted on the palate, the 2010 dazzles from the very first taste. Expressive, floral notes meld into bright red fruit, mint and crushed berries in a vibrant, striking Barolo endowed with pure energy and class…Simply put, the 2010 Barolo Albe is not to be missed. –AG
Vajra's Dolcetto d'Alba brings together the fruits of four prized vineyards: Fossati, Coste di Vergine, Pascolo and Ravera. Dolcetto is a demanding grape variety that requires good sun exposure and all the attention and care of a prima donna. Vajra Dolcetto is a tribute to this extraordinary indigenous variety and brings all of the freshness and taste from the fruit to the bottle.
This Barbera d'Alba is a harmony of six vineyards expressing both the Helvetian and Tortonian soil types of Piemonte.
Vajra's Langhe Nebbiolo is produced from young estate vineyards in the hills around Barolo and Novello. The vines are four to seven years old and will produce Barolo DOCG in the best vintages. This blend of vineyards is a pure expression of Nebbiolo fruit and its aromas. It is made with minimum oenological interference in order to preserve the integrity of the grape and of its flavours.
Vajra Langhe Rosso is an introductory red Piemonte wine using indigenous varieties and highlighting the wines that are crafted in this wonderful region. The wine is characterized by juicy fruit, freshness and a good structure, and a high level of approachability. This is a food-friendly wine that is simple but with great personality
