Wine | Berlucchi Franciacorta
In 1961, an ambitious young winemaker working for the Berlucchi winery, Franco Ziliani, was permitted to pursue an ambition of producing a fine sparkling wine. He was allowed to produce for release 3,000 bottles of this sparkling wine, which was also sold under the name Pinot di Franciacorta.
That inaugural vintage was so successful the following year they increased production to 20,000 bottles. Other producers subsequently followed and the Franciacorta industry was born.
As the pioneer of sparkling Franciacorta wine, Berlucchi's Storica '61 label pays homage to this grand feat.
Grape varieties typically used include Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris.
Appearance: Soft, dense, foamy mousse, with a long-lasting delicate cordon around the glass, and a long-lingering bead of fine, pin-point bubbles. The colour is straw yellow, with greenish highlights.
Nose: Crisp, rich, and elegant, fairly lengthy and with lovely depth. It releases generous fragrances of apple and pear, along with notes of tropical fruit and subtle nuances of spice.
Palate: Displays an exceptional freshness and zesty acidity, with a velvety texture and fine balance, concluding with appealing notes of citrus
