Pub patrons in Bathurst, Orange and Dubbo have been put on notice to behave or face a hefty fine with the new STOP! Is it worth $550 campaign being enforced in the Central West over New Year and the rest of summer.

The "fail to quit" campaign is seeing posters, beer coasters and flyers being placed in prominent places throughout local hotels this week warning out of control patrons that they face a hefty fine if they don't leave when told by staff.

AHA (NSW) director of policing and membership John Green said local patrons who are violent, drunk or disorderly will be fined $550 by police if they refuse to leave a licensed venue when asked by hotel management.

"The Oxford Hotel in Bathurst is a classic example of a venue being punished because of the actions of a few," Green said.

"The Ox is a well run venue that would have up to 400,000 people through its doors every year, yet because of the actions of a few, the hotel ends up on a statistical list that has little relevance."

"Well, I can tell you that licensees are as fed up as NSW Police with people that don't accept the umpire's decision and leave. If you want to play up at any licensed premises and won't go when told, police will be called and you will be dealt with - the message here is clear – enjoy your holidays and a drink but stop before you get drunk and are asked to leave."

Green said assault rates at hotels across the Central West were actually at the lowest rates in over a decade due to the hard work of publicans, police and the local community.

"Licensees are working well with local police on a range of initiatives" he said. "But the piece of the puzzle that still needs work are the very few who still do the wrong thing," he said.

"Those people are put on notice. We can now bar you from all venues if you play up, not just the one you get kicked out of this weekend."

The STOP! campaign is about making sure people are responsible for their own actions. It is backed by the Australian Hotels Association (NSW), the NSW Police Force and ClubsNSW.
