Federal Budget funding initiatives which promote and create jobs are set to benefit the accommodation industry.

However, based on projected growth in the industry and available jobs, the need for skilled job seekers looms as a significant challenge.

"The Accommodation Association of Australia, through our Academy, currently delivers tailored pre-employment programs which combine classroom and practical-based training," said the Association's Chief Executive Officer, Richard Munro.

"Work experience has been a key component of the programs and the Budget announcement which provides support for 6000 job seekers will increase industry support to deliver skills and real-life experience relating to opportunities to gain employment.

"To complement this, we are continuing to encourage young people to work in the accommodation industry by promoting the many career opportunities which exist.

"The $330 million commitment in the Budget to a Youth Employment Strategy will assist with addressing this need."

"The $1.2 billion in wage subsidies will allow small-to-medium accommodation businesses to support employment initiatives and recruit additional staff where previous financial constraints may have precluded them from doing so," he said.

"Often, the first face-to-face contact that international visitors have with an Australian is within an accommodation or tourism business, meaning our industry is on the front line of customer service and quality experiences.

"Therefore, the more that government and our industry can work together on job creating initiatives, the better off the accommodation industry, as well as the broader economy will be."
